Choosing the right tattoo artist

Anybody can undertake a tattoo with the right equipment, but it takes years of training to do it properly, safely, and with a high level of artistic ability. Remember that this is a choice that will stay with you for a life time, and that you deserve to have a top quality tattoo to last you through the years.
Tattoo studios are subject to regulations governing issues such as hand-washing facilities, hygiene standards and sterilisation. They are also subject to inspections by local Health Departments.
All these factors make going to a professional studio a better choice for your tattoo as you are assured a stringent level of quality.

There are some simple questions you should ask yourself when looking at a tattoo studio:
Is the premises clean and tidy?
Does the premises have a friendly, professional atmosphere?
Look at the people that have just been tattooed. Do they look happy? Are they satisfied with the work?
Does the artist use single use latex gloves when tattooing?
Does the artist use single use cups for holding the ink?

You are entitled to ask the artist:
For legitimate proof of relevant Health Department registration.
Are single-use needles used for all tattoos?
Is all reusable equipment autoclaved before use?
Will they offer follow-up service during the aftercare phase?

A good artist will also:
Take the time to explain the procedure in detail, including any possible risks.
Explain in detail the aftercare routine.
Make the customer feel comfortable.
Take the time to discuss the design and the location.
Offer advice on what styles and pieces will compliment existing work and plan out your future pieces.
Show examples of their previous work.

You also have a responsibility to your artist:

To tell the artist if you are pregnant - if this is the case you will NOT be tattooed.
To truthfully answer any questions about your age and health.
To consider telling your artist if you carry a transmittable blood born virus such as Hepatitis or HIV.

How to Heal New Tattoos

1) As soon as possible wash tattoo with clean, warm, running water (shower) using a mild liquid anti-bacterial soap. Do not rub or scratch tattoo. Pat dry, gently apply aftercare cream.

2) Apply after care cream onto tattoo every couple of hours or when appearing dry for the first two weeks.

3) Before going to bed, apply aftercare cream onto tattoo and wrap with clingwrap for the first four nights.

No salt water, chlorine, swimming pools, saunas, spas, picking, scratching or direct sunlight for the first two weeks. For any concerns or enquiries please feel free to call us.
